Important News regarding our hours

At Historic Hope Foundation, the health and safety of our members, staff and visitors is our top priority. We are adhering to Governor Coopers’s order regarding closure of State historic sites to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Historic Hope Plantation will be closed to the public at this time. We will let you know when we reopen and are offering tours so you can plan your visit to our amazing historic site.

2020 Season Tour Schedule – Once We Can Reopen

Historic Hope will open the 2020 season for tours as follows:

  • March 21 – April 12, weekends only, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • April 15 – May 24, Wednesday – Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • May 25 – September 6, Monday – Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Thank you for considering a visit to Historic Hope and we look forward to seeing you soon.

However, because of the possible spread of COVID-19, if you are currently sick or belong to a group at high risk, we encourage you to postpone your visit until a future date if you are currently sick or belong to a group at high risk of severe illness.

New Tour Guide Announced

We would like to extend a great BIG welcome to our new docent, Sam Speller. Sam has held a position on Historic Hope Plantation’s Board of Directors for the last 9 years and has been a tireless volunteer at Hope’s Living History Days and other events. We are so excited that Sam decided to join the docent team! We are certain he will love it as much as we love him!

Tour Guide Wanted – Position Filled

Historic Hope Foundation seeks a docent to work from 10 am to 4 pm, 2 to 3 days a week, including some weekends.  The docent will explain how our tricultural heritage – Native Americans, European settlers, and African Americans – influenced life in Bertie County in the 18th and 19th centuries and guide visitors through the King –Bazemore House and Hope Mansion.

New Caretaker – Ed Rawls Jr.

We are pleased to announce that Ed Rawls Jr has accepted the caretaker position.  Ed is a Bertie County native. He attended Lawrence Academy and graduated from East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Design with a double concentration in business administration and urban and regional planning. Currently he resides in Windsor and farms with his family.  He has a good eye for the way the grounds should look, a very good presence, and is a skilled decorator.  We look forward to working with him. Welcome Ed !!!!
